As part of the Action Media initiative, we are working with the young people to gain Arts Awards. Part of the Arts Award qualification requires being an audience member at an arts event. This is a review of an online exhibition that a young person from our Action Media group attended.

[ Review by Jamie ]
The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is the first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts!
The museum is based in Washington, America, but has a number of online exhibitions to view.
The Girlhood exhibition
Various photographs of girls and women. Showing different stages of life, different upbringings , different lifestyles and different personalities.
Black and White photography [except one photograph]
Why I viewed this exhibition
I viewed this because, as a woman, it’s interesting to see how different each female can be. Photographs to me show more than what we think. When you’re looking at the moment you can miss tiny or big details and you can’t go back to look, but with photographs you can cherish the memory and see those details you might have overlooked.
What I Liked about it, and why
I liked the different varities of people.
It wasn’t the same kind of girl in every picture, each one was different in more ways than one.
I also like how she added a coloured picture. That was my favourite photograph, because even though the exhibition was black and white, the photographer just saw such beauty in the colour photo that she had to put it in!
What I learnt
What I learnt from this exhibition was how different girls around the world grow up. How not one girl on those pictures has the same upbringing, and how where we come from really shows how we change.
It taught me that even though most of us girls go through the same changes, we are all different in our own unique way.
Would you recommend this to others?
I would most definitely recommend this exhibition to others, especially young girls who think they need to look like some other girl, or look a certain way.
